As a major effort towards transparency in the examination assessment process, CBSE has decided to allow Class 12 students who do not get any change in their marks on verification or re-evaluation to personally view their answer books in regional offices.

This comes in the wake of a comprehensive clarification by the board regarding the process of verification and re-evaluation for the examination year 2026.

Transparency in the Verification Process

As per CBSE, the students who requested for verification of issues in their scanned answer books and were told that there is no change in marks would be permitted to view their answer sheets physically.

The board further clarified that the schedule for the inspection of answer books would soon be released through official communication channels.

This is one of the most transparent processes adopted by CBSE in recent years.

Understanding Verification of Issues Identified

The CBSE had also made it clear that verification is not the same as re-evaluation.

In the context of verification, students can raise issues regarding their answer books which have been scanned in the following manner:

Missing pages in answer book

Missing supplementary sheets

Missing maps or graphs

Fuzzy scanning of pages

Incorrect uploading of answer book of another student

Marking of answer sheet according to wrong question paper scheme

Verification can be done for single or more subjects by the student.

What is Involved in Re-evaluation

The re-evaluation process is different as it allows the students to ask for a reevaluation of certain answers/ questions after getting a copy of their answer book.

It should be noted that in case of re-evaluation, students can seek reevaluation of multiple questions in different subjects if they feel there is any mistake in the evaluation of their answers.

Mark Sheets Revision Made Available Via DigiLocker

Moreover, the board further stated that revised results as well as mark sheets revision have been uploaded via DigiLocker.

According to CBSE, most of the documents have been revised on June 21 while the rest are expected to be revised in a few days. Students can use their revised digital mark sheets for admissions and other academic purposes immediately.

Multiple Stages of Evaluation

CBSE addressed issues related to the review process by stating the precautions taken during evaluation and re-evaluation.

Experts of prestigious institutions such as IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur were appointed by the board for supervising the process of re-evaluation. Further, every answer book under re-evaluation underwent examination by two experts, while CBSE officials from headquarters as well as regional offices supervised the activity.

Moreover, complaints pertaining to missing pages, supplementary sheets, maps, graphs, blurry images, wrong answer books, and errors in marking schemes have been examined properly.

Impact on Students

Answer sheet inspections give students better insight into the process, which has long been perceived as mysterious by many. By providing physical access to the answer sheets that have not seen any changes, CBSE hopes to instill greater trust in the evaluation process.

In an environment where the pressure for getting into colleges is increasing day by day, transparency in evaluation and dispute redressal is a major issue among students. The latest move by CBSE will definitely be taken as a positive step towards ensuring accountability in the examination process.
